It's fine to have those facts listed in order to have a handle on your character, but don't include it if it's going to be distracting or "out of left field."

Thanks for visiting!

-ShelleyShelley N Greenehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16682657296442245678noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7225885110488479850.post-55512726165768440452012-04-03T21:54:08.110-04:002012-04-03T21:54:08.110-04:00Hi Francene!

Yes, it's usually accidental when the dump happens, just eager to talk up our character, but better to watch for it than to write and have to rework it later.

Katniss' is a great example of good back-story, she lives in a pretty impoverished world, but you as the reader don't question it. Suzanne Collins also uses tense and flashback very skillfully, and those topics are slated to come up later in our alphabet.

Thanks, Sarah! :0)Shelley N Greenehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16682657296442245678noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7225885110488479850.post-6102309059135791032012-04-03T18:58:23.832-04:002012-04-03T18:58:23.832-04:00Some back story is fine so long as it's releva...Some back story is fine so long as it's relevant. You find out about Katniss's life in District 12 pretty gradually, and you get a good feel for her.Sarah Allanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08400991060848486889noreply@blogger.com
